Helping People with Disabilities in Norfolk – The BUILD Charity

by | May 31, 2021 | Community, Keepsake

The BUILD Charity is a Norfolk based, independent registered charity providing social, leisure and learning opportunities for anyone, with any disability aged 16 and over, in Norfolk.

Formed in Norwich in 1967, we host around 250 separate community-based activities each year ranging from gardening to exercise classes, meals out in local pubs and restaurants, city, coastal and countryside walks as well as days out, short breaks and holidays. In addition, we host regular Skills for Life sessions promoting things that help people to live more independently. With a small, but high-quality team of coordination and support staff, most of our services are delivered by volunteers, many of whom have disabilities themselves.

Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, we have continued to operate services, switching some to online, operating out of doors when able, and providing telephone support and home activity packs where people could not engage digitally.

We are always keen to talk to people with disabilities, their families and carers about accessing our services, to new volunteers who want to support us on the front line, or behind the scenes, and like most charities, we are always keen to talk to people who want to raise money with, and for us.
