Visit The Shoebox on this fun, free, family-friendly trail throughout the city, in partnership with the Norfolk Museums Service!
Starting from Norwich Castle, the trail will take people through the city centre, highlighting its historic buildings and businesses, finishing at the Tunnel of Light. The trail will be available from 16th November – 5th January.
900 years ago in 1121, King Henry I (one of the most powerful medieval kings and a son of William the Conqueror) chose Norwich Castle for his Christmas court. The construction of Norwich Castle had been completed that year under his instruction, so it made a fitting venue for his Christmas celebrations, which included a huge feast.
The king’s visit is one of the few recorded visits to Norwich by an Anglo-Norman king,
making it a significant event in the history of the city and of East Anglia.
In celebration of this 900-year anniversary, we are running our Christmas Crown Trail
across the city in partnership with Norfolk Museums Service encouraging people to get
out and about in the city and spot the crowns!
